Synopsis
A re-evaluation of Florence Nightingale’s reputation as the founder of modern nursing. By examining her theories within the context of her life and times and scrutinizing the effect they had on subsequent models, the author argues that her influence comes mainly from factors other than the model of nursing which bears her name. Nightingale’s principal texts, on which the book is based, are reproduced in full as appendices.
